Ideal started in the United Kingdom in 1906 and grew into one of Europe's largest boiler makers. In 2020 it brought a line built for North American gas boiler rules to the US, with F.W. Webb as the exclusive US distributor. Each US-bound boiler got a live-fire retest after it arrived.

The US arm, Ideal Heating North America, also sold Commodore commercial boilers and Monarch indirect water heaters, and it shared operations with Triangle Tube. On its own website, Ideal Heating NA now says Triangle Tube and Ideal Heating NA ceased operations effective November 3, 2025. The UK Ideal brand is a separate market and doesn't support these US models.

Every Exalt runs on natural gas or propane and uses Ideal's CtrlMax control. CtrlMax shows faults in plain text instead of codes, runs up to three circulators, and has outdoor reset and hot water priority built in.

Long Island Homes

Ideal Boilers for Long Island Homes

The Exalt's 8:1 turndown lets it idle down to 13,750 BTU/hr on the 110 model. That fits Long Island homes well, since most heating days here are mild and a boiler that can run low and steady short-cycles less.

Venting is flexible. A 3 inch vent can run up to 100 feet in PVC, polypropylene or stainless, so the boiler doesn't need a chimney. Propane installs, common out east, must use 3 inch venting only.

Exalt and Gallant boilers ship with a factory hot water sensor made for the Ideal Monarch indirect water heater. If you have that pair, we service both together.

On paper, Ideal offered three levels on the Exalt:

On top of the manufacturer's coverage, Domino backs every installation with a 1-year labor warranty.

Basic level: 2 years on parts and 10 years on the primary heat exchanger.
Middle level: 5 years on parts, a 2-year labor allowance and 10 years on the heat exchanger, with registration.
Top level: 6 years on parts, a 3-year labor allowance and 12 years on the heat exchanger, with registration, a combustion analysis and system water treatment.

Ideal vs Bosch Boilers

Since the November 2025 shutdown, those promises are in doubt. Trade press reported the shutdown notice said products would have no warranties from that date. Keep your registration papers and serial number, and plan as if repairs from here on are out of pocket.

Most Ideal owners who call us about a replacement end up comparing it with a Bosch Greenstar. Both are 95% AFUE gas condensing boilers that hang on the wall or stand on the floor and vent in plastic pipe.

The build is different. The Exalt uses a stainless steel fire tube heat exchanger with an 8:1 turndown. The Greenstar uses an aluminum-silicon alloy heat exchanger and, on the 100 size, modulates from 24,600 to 100,000 BTU/hr input. On hot water, the Exalt Combi 199 is rated 5.3 GPM at a 70°F rise, while the Greenstar Combi 151 is rated 4.0 GPM at a 72°F rise. Ideal Boiler Repair and Service

We stock the common parts that fit most condensing boilers, like condensate traps, relief valves, expansion tanks and circulators. Ideal-only parts, such as igniters, burner heads and sensors, come from distributors while supplies last, so we check availability before we promise a fix.

A yearly tune-up still pays off. We run a combustion test, clean the condensate trap, inspect the burner and heat exchanger, and check system pressure and water quality.

Lockout with low pressure: a slow leak or a tired expansion tank tripping the low water cutoff pressure switch.
Won't light: a worn igniter or spark generator, low gas pressure, or a blocked vent or air intake.
Sensor fault on the display: a failed supply or return temperature sensor, which CtrlMax names in plain text.
Lukewarm showers on an Exalt Combi: scale in the brazed plate hot water heat exchanger.
Gurgling or shutdown in a cold snap: a clogged condensate trap or a frozen drain line.

Installation

Ideal Boiler Installation and Replacement

We don't install new Ideal boilers, since the US company has closed. When yours needs a part nobody can get, or the heat exchanger fails, here's how we replace it:

Free estimate: we check the boiler, venting, gas line and hot water setup.
Heat loss check, so the new boiler fits the house instead of just the old nameplate.
Choose a brand and model with an active warranty and parts supply.
Remove the Ideal, set the new boiler, and reuse the vent and piping where it's safe to.
Commission and test the new boiler, then register it with its maker for you.
