Burnham is the long-running residential boiler name from U.S. Boiler Company. U.S. Boiler calls itself a division of Burnham Holdings, "the oldest U.S. company in the boiler marketplace," and has its headquarters and assembly operations in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Cast iron sections come from Casting Solutions, another Burnham Holdings company in Zanesville, Ohio.

Sister companies under Burnham Holdings include New Yorker Boiler Company, Velocity Boiler Works and Governale on the residential side, plus Burnham Commercial, Bryan Steam and Thermal Solutions for larger buildings. U.S. Boiler's site now lists its oil boilers under the U.S. Boiler Company name, so a new boiler may not say Burnham on the jacket even though it comes from the same plant. Burnham Boilers for Long Island Homes

Many Long Island homes run an oil-fired cast iron boiler tied to a masonry chimney. U.S. Boiler designed the MPO-IQ as a replacement for homes with existing chimneys, and both it and the EMP offer a direct vent option when there's no chimney or the flue isn't fit to use.

If your house has steam radiators, the MegaSteam is the oil-fired steam choice. U.S. Boiler says it produces steam that is 99% dry. Its 5-year water-side corrosion warranty covers the cast iron sections against chloride-activated corrosion.

If space for a separate water heater is tight, the V8H and MegaSteam can take a tankless coil. For the MPO-IQ and EMP, U.S. Boiler lists its Alliance SL indirect water heater as the matching tank.

U.S. Boiler lists a lifetime limited heat exchanger warranty on the MPO-IQ, EMP and V8H, plus 1 year on parts. An optional 5- or 10-year parts and limited labor warranty is available on the MPO-IQ and V8H. The MegaSteam gets 10 years on the heat exchanger and 5 years against water-side corrosion.

U.S. Boiler's residential warranty applies to the original owner at the original address in a one- or two-family home. It asks you to register within 10 days, though late registration doesn't void coverage. Labor isn't included, and damage from hard water, freezing, improper fuel or skipped maintenance is excluded.

Burnham vs New Yorker Boilers

New Yorker Boiler Company is a sister brand under Burnham Holdings, and you'll find both names in Long Island basements. The clearest difference is construction. U.S. Boiler's current oil lineup is all cast iron, while New Yorker sells cast iron oil boilers (CL Water, CI-HGS 3-pass, CL Steam) and steel oil boilers (AP-U, FR and FR-HGS).

New Yorker's site doesn't publish AFUE figures for those models, so we compare them using the data plate and spec sheet on a job. If you have a New Yorker unit, we service it the same way we service Burnham equipment.

Boiler runs but radiators stay cold: a failed circulator or air trapped in the hot water loop.
