U.S. Boiler Company calls itself a division of Burnham Holdings, "the oldest U.S. company in the boiler marketplace." Its home page says its products are designed, engineered and manufactured domestically, with headquarters in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

In October 2025 the company opened a 45,000 square foot Condensing Center of Excellence in Lancaster to build its ALTA line. Steam houses have two U.S. Boiler options on gas. The Independence vents into a chimney and comes in seven sizes, packaged or knocked down for narrow cellar stairs. If the chimney is gone or failing, the Independence PV uses an induced draft fan and a 3-inch AL29-4C stainless steel vent, with up to 35 equivalent feet on most sizes.

Space is the ALTA's strong suit. It hangs on the wall, weighs 71 to 116 pounds and is 16.3 or 20.4 inches deep, which frees up the floor where an old cast iron boiler and tank used to sit.

Warranty

U.S. Boiler Company Boiler Warranty

Terms vary by model. U.S. Boiler lists a 12-year limited heat exchanger warranty and 5 years on parts for the ALTA, 5-year parts replacement on Alpine residential boilers under 300 MBH, a lifetime limited warranty on the ES2, and a limited 10-year heat exchanger warranty with 1 year on parts for the Independence.

The January 2026 residential warranty asks the owner to register within ten days of installation, but missing that deadline doesn't void coverage. It applies to the original owner, doesn't pay labor, and excludes damage from hard water, scale or a dirty system clogging the heat exchanger. We register it for you.

U.S. Boiler vs PB Heat Gas Boilers

PB Heat boilers, sold as Peerless, line up closely on paper. The ALTAC-200 and the PBC-52 combi both list 5.2 GPM of hot water at a 70 degree rise, and both makers rate their condensing boilers around 95% AFUE. On cast iron, the ES2 lists 85% against 84.3% to 84.6% for the Peerless MI-e.

Two differences matter in practice. U.S. Boiler says skipping registration doesn't void coverage, while PB Heat's five-year parts and labor extras require it. For steam without a chimney, U.S. Boiler sells the power-vented Independence PV; PB Heat's direct vent cast iron PSCII is a hot water boiler.

Independence short cycles on pressure: a plugged pigtail siphon or a pressure limit set too high.
