PB Heat, LLC has made Peerless boilers since 2003. Before that, the name belonged to The Peerless Heater Company, which is no longer in business. PB Heat is in Bally, Pennsylvania, and Japan's Noritz Corporation bought it in January 2019; Peerless is still marketed separately from Noritz's own products.

The company's tagline is "America's Best Built Boiler." Its sister line is Pavilion, a tankless water heater brand shown under PB Heat's products. Peerless sells only through distributors, never directly to homeowners. You'll also find PB Heat covered on our Peerless and PB Heat boilers page.

Peerless Boilers for Long Island Homes

If your home has steam radiators, Peerless gives you two oil options. The WBV comes in steam versions rated for 325 to 563 square feet of steam radiation, and the EC's wet base design is built for steam and large hot water systems.

If the chimney is shot, the WV-DV vents through the wall with one 8-inch hole and a factory-supplied 4-inch insulated flexible vent, sold in 10, 15 and 20 foot kits. The WBV and EC are chimney-only boilers, so we check the flue and liner before quoting them.

All three oil models accept an optional tankless coil for domestic hot water, and Peerless also makes Peerless Partner indirect water heaters. PB Heat certifies the WBV and EC for biodiesel blends up to B20.

Warranty

Peerless Boiler Warranty

PB Heat gives residential cast iron boilers a full one-year warranty. The cast iron sections of hot water boilers have a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner, and steam boiler sections are covered for 10 years. PB Heat calls these "full cost" warranties that don't shrink over time, unlike prorated coverage.

There are conditions. The lifetime and 10-year coverage require full registration with PB Heat, installation by a heating contractor, and a yearly inspection by a qualified heating technician. Labor isn't covered, and damage from flooding, freezing, low water or bad water conditions is excluded. Five- and ten-year extended warranties are sold through installers by a third party.

Peerless vs Weil-McLain Oil Boilers

Weil-McLain is the closest rival lineup for cast iron oil boilers. Both top out near 87% AFUE, but they split the work differently. Peerless builds one boiler, the WBV, in both steam and hot water versions, while Weil-McLain uses separate lines (WGO and WTGO for water, SGO for steam).

Fuel and warranty differ too. Weil-McLain rates its oil boilers for up to B100 with approved burners; Peerless certifies the WBV and EC for B20. Peerless offers lifetime coverage on hot water sections but needs registration, while Weil-McLain gives 20 years on the WGO, WTGO and Ultra Oil heat exchangers with no registration needed.

These are the Peerless problems we fix most, with the common cause.

Boiler won't fire: the HydroStat low water cutoff tripped from low water, or the oil burner locked out.
Burner lockout on start: a dirty nozzle or oil filter, or a weak ignitor.
Steam boiler cycles on pressure: a pressure control set too high, or a clogged pigtail.
Short hot water from the tankless coil: scale inside the coil or a stuck mixing valve.
Soot buildup and smoky odor: poor draft or combustion out of adjustment.
WV-DV shuts off: a blocked or damaged vent termination outside the house.

Peerless Boiler Tune-Up and Parts

We stock the common parts, including nozzles, oil filters, ignitors, circulators, pressure controls and relief valves. Peerless oil boilers have a full plate swing-out door and a top cleanout, which make it easier to brush the flue passages. PB Heat's warranty asks for a yearly inspection, so a tune-up through our boiler service on Long Island also keeps your coverage in line.

We pick the WBV, EC or WV-DV based on size and chimney condition.
We decide on a tankless coil or an indirect water heater for hot water.
We install and pipe the boiler and register it with PB Heat for you.
We fire it, test combustion and set the HydroStat.
