Who Makes Durastar Force Boilers?

Ferguson sells them, and its current cast iron boiler warranty names U.S. Boiler Company, LLC as the manufacturer. We couldn't confirm the maker of older ProSelect units.

Is a ProSelect Force Boiler the Same as a Durastar Force?

Yes. Ferguson now lists the same Force model numbers under the Durastar name.

Can I Buy a Durastar Force Boiler Myself?

Not easily. Ferguson's product pages say Force boilers require certification to purchase, so they're bought and installed by contractors.

Does a Durastar Force Oil Boiler Make Hot Water?

It can. FORCEVFO models with a "T" in the number include a tankless coil rated 3.00 to 4.75 GPM, depending on size.

Is a Durastar Force Boiler High Efficiency?

No, it's a non-condensing cast iron boiler. Ratings run from 81.9% AFUE on steam to 87% on the oil models.

About Durastar Force Boilers

That means a no-heat call usually ends with the boiler running again, not a wait for some odd part. We install, repair and service Durastar Force boilers on Long Island, stock the common parts, and offer free replacement estimates with boiler financing.

Durastar Force isn't a factory name. Durastar is a brand that Ferguson, the plumbing and HVAC distributor, sells only through its own branches, and the Force boilers carried Ferguson's ProSelect name until recently. The product pages still note the boilers are "Offered exclusively by Ferguson" and need trade certification to buy, and the web addresses still read ProSelect, so an older boiler in your basement may have a ProSelect label.

Who builds them? Ferguson's "Limited Warranty For Ferguson Cast Iron Water & Steam Boilers," for units made on or after July 1, 2024, names U.S. Boiler Company, LLC of Lancaster, Pennsylvania as the manufacturer. The oil spec sheet says Made in USA. We haven't found a document that confirms who built the older ProSelect-labeled units.

Long Island Homes

Durastar Force Boilers for Long Island Homes

Every Force model is chimney vented, and none of the sheets we found list a direct vent option. The FORCEVFO needs at least an 8 by 8 inch flue 15 feet tall; the FORCEOIL takes a 6 or 7 inch round liner or an 8 by 8, also 15 feet minimum. On older Long Island chimneys, we check the liner before we quote.

These are heavy boilers. A FORCEVFO ships at 560 to 800 pounds, so we plan the route down the cellar stairs ahead of time. The 3-pass FORCEOIL is the compact choice at 31-7/8 inches tall and 17 inches deep.

For steam on gas, the FORCES line adds a vent damper, blocked vent switch, flame roll-out switch and probe-type low water cutoff, and its draft diverter is sized for low basements. For hot water, the FORCEVFO's "T" versions carry a tankless coil Or we pair the boiler with an indirect tank.

Warranty

Durastar Force Boiler Warranty

Ferguson markets a limited lifetime heat exchanger warranty on Force water boilers. The fine print: no charge for repair or replacement in years 1 to 5, then a pro-rated service charge based on a percentage of retail price that rises with age. Parts are covered for one year, labor isn't included, and damage from hard water, scale or a dirty system is excluded.

Force steam boilers list a 10-year limited heat exchanger warranty. Coverage belongs to the original owner, and Ferguson asks for registration within ten days, though skipping it doesn't void your rights. We register it for you.

On top of the manufacturer's coverage, Domino backs every installation with a 1-year labor warranty.

Durastar Force vs PurePro Advantage Boilers

The closest match is PurePro boilers, F.W. Webb's house brand. Put the oil spec sheets side by side and the numbers line up almost exactly: the same six input sizes from 105 to 266 MBH, the same tankless coil ratings of 3.00 to 4.75 GPM, the same 8 by 8 by 15 foot chimney minimum, and matching AFUE on five of six sizes.

The differences are small. PurePro's Advantage oil sheet lists Beckett, Carlin or Riello burners, while the FORCEVFO sheet lists only the Beckett AFG. Neither sheet names a factory, so we don't claim they share one. Service work, though, is nearly identical.

Repair & Service

Durastar Force Boiler Repair and Service

Common Force boiler calls (ProSelect or Durastar label) and what's usually behind them:

Oil burner in lockout: a plugged nozzle or filter, or the GeniSys primary sensing no flame.
Boiler off with water low: the Hydrostat 3250-plus cutoff tripped after a pressure loss.
Rumbling start-up on an oil model: poor draft or a draft regulator out of adjustment.
Gas steam boiler won't fire: the probe cutoff sees low water or the vent damper didn't open.
Weak hot water from a T model: a scaled tankless coil or a failing mixing valve.
Relief valve dripping on a water boiler: pressure above the 30 PSI valve rating, often from a bad fill valve or expansion tank.

Good to Know

Durastar Force Boiler Tune-Up and Parts

We stock the common parts: nozzles, oil filters, electronic ignitors, cad cells, Hydrostat controls, circulators, relief valves and low water cutoff probes. The FORCEOIL's reversible cast iron door swings the burner aside so we can brush the 3-pass flueways. Book yearly boiler service on Long Island before the first cold snap.

Installation

Durastar Force Boiler Installation and Replacement

Your price depends on oil or gas, steam or hot water, boiler size, chimney liner work, a tankless coil or indirect tank, and how much near-boiler piping changes. Call for a quote; estimates are free and boiler financing is available.

We confirm the fuel and system type and run a heat loss.
We inspect the chimney and plan any liner.
We pick the Force model and decide on coil or indirect hot water.
We take out the old boiler, set the new one and repipe the near-boiler loop.
We fire it, test combustion and the low water cutoff, and register the warranty.
