About Trane Mini Splits

You get quiet heat and air conditioning in one room or several, with no ductwork to run. We install, repair and service Trane ductless mini splits on Long Island, and we stock the common parts. Our factory-trained technicians handle everything from a single wall unit to a whole-home multi-zone system.

Trane doesn't build its ductless line alone. Its mini splits come from Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US, known as METUS, a 50/50 joint venture between Trane Technologies and Mitsubishi Electric US formed in 2018. METUS lists "Trane Mitsubishi Electric" among its brands, and Trane's own site says it recommends mini split systems from Mitsubishi Electric.

So a Trane mini split uses Mitsubishi Electric's M-Series platform, including the MSZ wall units and the MUZ, SUZ and MXZ outdoor units. Sister brand American Standard sells ductless equipment through the same joint venture. You can compare other options on our mini split brands page.

Trane Mini Splits for Long Island Homes

A lot of Long Island houses have baseboard or radiator heat and no ducts at all. For them, a mini split is the easiest way to add central-style cooling. It's also how many families handle a converted garage or a second-floor addition the old boiler never reached.

Winter heat is where the hyper-heating models earn their keep. Mitsubishi Electric's H2i units hold full heating capacity at 5°F and keep running down to -13°F. That covers almost every night of a normal Long Island winter.

Want to replace oil heat completely? PSEG Long Island pays $4,000 at market rate, and up to $7,500 for income-qualified homes, on a whole-house cold climate heat pump. The system must cover 100 to 120% of the whole home's heating load per a Manual J, the units must be on the NEEP cold climate list, and you'll need a participating contractor. Domino is a PSEG Long Island participating contractor. If your oil or gas system stays, dual fuel controls are required.

Warranty

Trane Mini Split Warranty

Trane's warranty guide says ductless coverage varies based on the system. Trane's general rule is a 5-year Base Limited Warranty and a 10-year Registered Limited Warranty when you register within 60 days, but check the certificate for your exact model.

On the Mitsubishi Electric side, a 12-year parts and compressor warranty applies only when an installer in one of Mitsubishi Electric's own contractor programs puts in the system and it's registered within 90 days. Ask us which terms apply to the units in your quote. Labor isn't covered under either brand's standard limited warranty.

On top of the manufacturer's coverage, Domino backs every installation with a 1-year labor warranty.

Trane vs Mitsubishi Electric Mini Splits

This is the comparison we hear most. Trane and Mitsubishi Electric ductless units are made by the same joint venture and share the same M-Series platform. The indoor heads, outdoor units and hyper-heating technology are the same family.

The differences are the badge, the dealer network and how the warranty is written. Mitsubishi Electric ties its longest coverage to its own contractor programs. Trane-branded units follow Trane's warranty paperwork. Choose based on the installer and the warranty you'll get, not the logo on the cover.

Repair & Service

Trane Mini Split Repair and Service

We stock the common parts for Trane mini splits, like condensate pumps, sensors, fan motors, line set fittings and filters. Our 24/7 emergency service covers a dead system on a hot night.

A yearly cleaning keeps a mini split running right. We wash the indoor coil and blower wheel, clear the drain, check the charge and clean the outdoor coil. Salt air near the shore makes that outdoor coil check more important.

  • Water dripping from the indoor unit: a clogged condensate drain or a failed condensate pump.
  • Blinking lights or an error code: the unit's self-check found a sensor, fan or communication fault.
  • Weak heat on very cold days: a dirty filter, low refrigerant, or a non-hyper-heating unit doing more than it was sized for.
  • Musty smell when it starts: mold in the blower wheel or coil that needs a deep cleaning.
  • Outdoor unit runs but the room stays warm in summer: a refrigerant leak at a flare fitting.
  • One head works, another doesn't: a wiring or board fault on a multi-zone system.
Installation

Trane Mini Split Installation and Replacement

Price depends on how many zones you need, the indoor unit styles, line set length, electrical work, and whether you choose hyper-heating outdoor units. Call for a quote, or read about our ductless mini split installation on Long Island.

  1. We measure each room and run a heat load so every head is sized right.
  2. You pick the indoor style for each room, and we plan where the line sets and drain will run.
  3. We mount the outdoor unit on a pad or wall bracket above snow level.
  4. We run line sets, wiring and drains, then pressure test and vacuum the system.
  5. We start it up, set the remotes or Wi-Fi control, and register the system for you.

FAQ

Trane Mini Split FAQs

Common questions about this mini-split brand on Long Island.

1Is a Trane mini split the same as a Mitsubishi?

Mostly, yes. Trane ductless systems come from Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US and use the Mitsubishi Electric M-Series platform. The brand, dealer network and warranty paperwork differ.

2Can a Trane mini split heat my house in winter?

Yes, if you choose a hyper-heating model. Those keep heating down to -13°F, and some hold full capacity at 5°F.

3How many rooms can one outdoor unit handle?

Up to eight. A multi-zone outdoor unit can connect to up to eight ductless or ducted indoor units, each with its own temperature.

4Will a self-installed mini split keep its warranty?

Probably not. Trane says trying to install a mini split yourself will likely void the warranty.

5Does PSEG Long Island give a rebate for mini splits?

Only when they qualify as a whole-house cold climate system. The units must be on the NEEP list and cover 100 to 120% of the home's heating load, installed by a participating contractor. Domino is a PSEG Long Island participating contractor.
