Durastar is Ferguson's own HVAC label. Ferguson Enterprises holds the copyright on durastar.com, and Durastar's FAQ says the old Koldfront line is now Durastar under a new name. You can buy the equipment through Ferguson, but Durastar says its warranty can be voided if a licensed professional doesn't install it.

The ductless line is broad for a value brand. It includes wall units, ceiling cassettes, one-way cassettes, floor units, floor/ceiling flex units and slim ducted air handlers, plus a 115V wall unit for spots where running a 240V circuit is hard.

For a space that needs real winter heat, we lean toward Sirius Heat. Its full output at 0°F covers the coldest nights Long Island usually sees, and it keeps running down to -22°F. Standard units are a good match for cooling-first rooms or homes where an oil boiler still carries the heat.

Older Long Island houses with hot water baseboard often have no ducts at all, so a multi-zone system can add central-style cooling without new ductwork. A floor-mounted head can sit where an old radiator was. Mount the outdoor unit on a wall bracket or a raised pad so drifting snow and flooding rain don't bury the coil. Near the water, rinse the outdoor coil each spring to clear salt.

Warranty

Durastar Mini-Split Warranty

Residential Durastar mini-splits carry a 10-year limited warranty on defective and replacement parts once registered. Commercial installs get 5 years with registration. Durastar also states that the mini-split must be installed by a licensed HVAC contractor.

Labor isn't part of the factory parts warranty. Durastar offers a 5-year extended warranty through your contractor if you want longer coverage.

Durastar vs GE Mini-Splits

GE Appliances is the closest rival on price and features. GE's Endure single-zone line reaches up to 27 SEER2 and 11 HSPF2, with low-ambient heating to -31°F and up to 100% rated heat at 5°F. Durastar's Sirius Heat single-zone tops out at 26.4 SEER2 but lists a higher HSPF2 (up to 15.8) and full heat at 0°F.

On multi-zone, GE Endure runs 2 to 5 zones; Durastar's multi-zone outdoor units take up to six heads. Both brands give 10 years on parts with registration and both require a licensed installer. GE adds SmartHQ app control with Alexa and Google support, and Durastar sells Wi-Fi as an accessory.

Durastar Mini-Split Repair and Service

We stock common Durastar parts such as sensors, drain pumps and line set fittings. A yearly cleaning of the filters, coil and blower keeps the head quiet and the airflow strong.

Water dripping from the indoor head: a clogged condensate line or a drain pump that stopped.
Blinking error code, no heat: a sensor fault or a communication problem between the indoor and outdoor units.
Ice on the outdoor unit that won't clear: a defrost issue or poor drainage under the unit.
Weak airflow and a musty smell: dirty filters and a coated blower wheel that need a deep clean.
