In the US, Mitsubishi Electric mini-splits come from Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US (METUS), a joint venture between Trane Technologies and Mitsubishi Electric US. That's why Trane's own website points buyers to Mitsubishi Electric mini-splits instead of selling a separate Trane-built line.

Mitsubishi splits its lineup into the M-Series (residential) and the P-Series (larger and light commercial). The brand is best known for its Hyper-Heating INVERTER technology, called H2i. In 2025 it began moving popular series such as the FX and GX to R-454B refrigerant, which the company says has a global warming potential about 78% lower than R-410A.

Mitsubishi Mini-Splits for Long Island Homes

For a Long Island winter, the outdoor unit matters most. Mitsubishi rates H2i models for up to 100% heating capacity at 5°F, with heating down to -13°F. The hyper-heating multi-zone units also have built-in base pan heaters to stop ice from building up.

Not every Mitsubishi model is hyper-heating, though. If the mini-split will be the only heat in a room, look for NLHZ in the outdoor unit model number or the H2i plus Deluxe line. Standard models are fine for cooling and mild-weather heat while your boiler covers the coldest nights.

Planning to heat the whole house this way? PSEG Long Island pays a $4,000 rebate at market rate, and up to a $7,500 rebate for income-qualified homes, for a whole-house cold climate heat pump. It needs a NEEP-listed system sized to 100 to 120% of the heating load by Manual J, a participating contractor, and dual fuel controls if your oil or gas system stays. Warranty

Mitsubishi Mini-Split Warranty

Mitsubishi's best residential coverage is 12 years on parts and compressor. To get it, the system has to be installed in a single-family home by a contractor in one of Mitsubishi's own installer programs, registered within 90 days of installation, and the original owner has to live in the home.

Systems that don't meet those conditions fall under Mitsubishi's standard limited warranty, which is shorter. Ask us which coverage applies before you sign, and we'll show you the warranty statement for your exact model.

Mitsubishi vs Fujitsu Mini-Splits

Both brands build strong cold climate mini-splits, and the gap is in the fine print. Mitsubishi H2i holds 100% heating capacity at 5°F and runs to -13°F; the H2i plus Deluxe holds full capacity down to -5°F. Fujitsu's XLTH models are rated to heat down to -15°F, and the Orion XLTH+ to -22°F.

Mitsubishi Mini-Split Repair and Service

Indoor unit blinking and won't start: a stored fault code from a sensor, fan motor or indoor-outdoor communication problem.
Heat drops off on the coldest mornings: the outdoor unit isn't a hyper-heating model, or ice has built up because the base pan heater failed.
Water running down the wall: a clogged drain or an indoor unit that's tilted the wrong way.
Loud rattle from the outdoor unit: loose fan blade, debris in the fan, or a mounting bracket that needs new vibration pads.
