The variable speed models work with Rheem's EcoNet Smart Thermostat and app, while the R951T and R921T use a 7-segment LED display for service codes.

Plenty of Long Island houses with forced air still burn oil. Rheem's current residential furnaces are gas-fired, so a Rheem fits when you already have natural gas or when you're doing an oil to gas conversion. If you want to stay on oil, ask us about oil furnace brands instead.

Venting decides a lot. A 90%+ condensing furnace like the R962V or R972V vents through plastic pipe out a sidewall or roof and needs a condensate drain. The 80% R802V vents into a chimney, which can make it the simpler swap in an older home with a lined flue.

Furnaces in basements usually go upflow. In split-levels and homes with attic ductwork, the R97MV's downflow and horizontal setups help. If you also have central air, the furnace blower moves your summer air, so the variable speed models also help with humidity.

Rheem's 2026 furnace brochure gives every 90%+ model a limited lifetime heat exchanger warranty and 10 years of parts coverage, with registration required for the conditional terms.

The higher tiers add unit replacement. The Prestige R98MV and R97MV carry a conditional unit replacement for a limited lifetime, and the Classic Plus R972V and R962V carry a 10-year conditional unit replacement. Register right after the install so none of that is lost.

Rheem vs Ruud Furnaces

Rheem and Ruud are sister brands, and Rheem Sales Company manufactures Ruud's furnaces. Ruud's 2025 brochure lists the same R962V, R951V, R921V, R951T and R921T models, plus modulating U98MV and U97MV units in place of Rheem's R98MV and R97MV.

Ruud calls those tiers Ultra, Achiever Plus and Achiever, while Rheem uses Prestige, Classic Plus and Classic. AFUE and warranty structure line up. Choose on price, availability and which brand your AC or heat pump carries.

These are the Rheem furnace problems our furnace service techs fix most. We stock igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, inducer motors and control boards, and a fall tune-up cleans the burners and checks the drain, venting and safeties.

Furnace tries to light, then shuts off: a dirty flame sensor or a weak igniter.
Furnace shuts down on a cold, windy night: the water management system sensed a blocked or frozen condensate drain.
Inducer runs but burners never light: a stuck pressure switch or a blocked PVC vent pipe.
Blower runs but the air is cool: a lockout after repeated failed ignitions; the LED or app shows the code.
Short cycling on and off: a clogged filter overheating the heat exchanger, or an oversized furnace.

Installation

Rheem Furnace Installation and Replacement

A Rheem furnace replacement with Domino Fuel follows these steps:

Call for a quote. Price depends on the AFUE and staging you choose, venting changes, gas line work, duct transitions, and whether central air is replaced at the same time.

Run a Manual J heat loss and check ducts, gas line size and venting.
Pick the Rheem tier and size, and decide between condensing PVC venting or a lined chimney.
Remove the old furnace and set the new unit with a new filter rack and condensate drain.
Connect gas, power, thermostat and vent, then test for leaks and proper combustion.
Set blower speeds, show you the controls and register the furnace with Rheem.
