Goodman has made heating and cooling equipment since 1982. It's now part of Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, which sells the Daikin, Goodman and Amana brands. Daikin designs and builds this equipment at its Texas Technology Park near Houston.

Goodman Furnaces for Long Island Homes

The 90%-plus Goodman furnaces we checked use a heavy-duty aluminized-steel primary heat exchanger and a stainless-steel secondary heat exchanger. The stainless secondary handles the acidic condensate these furnaces make, which is why they need a drain line and PVC venting.

If your old furnace vents into a chimney and you'd rather not run new pipe through the wall, an 80% model like the GR9T80 keeps the chimney setup. Two-stage and variable-speed models are worth a look in Long Island capes and split-levels, where upstairs rooms run cold.

Goodman's current furnaces are gas only, with no oil models. If you have an older Goodman oil furnace, we service and repair it too. Oil-heated homes can switch to gas, or skip the furnace and look at a heat pump. Our furnace service on Long Island covers older Goodman units too.

Warranty

Goodman Furnace Warranty

This is where Goodman stands out. On models like the GRVM97, GRVT96 and GR9S96, Goodman lists a 20-year heat exchanger limited warranty, a 10-year parts limited warranty and a 5-year unit replacement limited warranty. Unit replacement means Goodman replaces the whole furnace if a covered failure happens in that window.

The terms come with two conditions. You must register online within 60 days of installation, and the unit replacement coverage requires yearly maintenance. Keep your tune-up receipts. Labor isn't part of the limited warranty.

Goodman vs Amana Furnaces

Goodman and Amana are built by the same Daikin company, so the hardware is close. Amana's AC9S96, for example, is a single-stage, multi-speed furnace at up to 96% AFUE with the same aluminized-steel tubular heat exchanger design.

The big difference is the warranty. Amana lists a Lifetime Unit Replacement Limited Warranty for the original registered homeowner, good as long as you own the home. Goodman's matching coverage is 5 years of unit replacement plus a 20-year heat exchanger warranty. If you plan to stay in the house for decades, ask us to price both.

Goodman Furnace Repair and Service

We stock the common parts for Goodman furnaces, including igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, inducer motors, control boards and filters. A yearly tune-up checks the burners, flame sensor, heat exchanger, drain and vent, and runs a combustion test. On a Goodman, that yearly visit also keeps the unit replacement warranty valid.

Furnace won't ignite: a cracked hot surface igniter or a dirty flame sensor.
Inducer runs but no flame: a pressure switch fault, often from a plugged condensate drain or vent.
Flame lights, then goes out: a dirty flame sensor or poor ground.
Blower won't shut off: a stuck relay on the control board or a thermostat wiring issue.
Water leaking under the furnace: a cracked condensate trap or clogged drain line.
