Durastar is the HVAC brand of Ferguson Enterprises, the plumbing and HVAC supply company. Besides furnaces it sells heat pumps, central air conditioners, air handlers, coils and ductless mini-splits, so a Durastar furnace can pair with a Durastar AC or heat pump on the same ducts.

The furnace line is built around value and service access. Durastar uses direct spark ignition and aluminized steel heat exchangers, and the 96% models add a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger. The 80% units show fault codes on a 7-segment LED display, which speeds up diagnosis.

The 96% two-stage furnace runs on low fire, about 60 to 65% of capacity, most of the time and steps up only when needed. That means fewer cold spots and less blower noise.

Durastar Furnaces for Long Island Homes

Durastar furnaces burn natural gas, so they fit homes on a gas line. If your home heats with oil, a Durastar gas furnace means a gas conversion first; for oil heat we'll talk through an oil furnace from another maker or a heat pump instead.

The 95% and 96% models are condensing furnaces, and they don't need your old chimney; we confirm the vent route on the first visit. The 95% unit has a blocked drain sensor that stops it before condensate spills into your basement. Pairing a Durastar furnace with a heat pump creates a dual fuel system: the heat pump handles mild days and the furnace covers deep cold.

Durastar Furnace Warranty

Durastar gives a 15-year limited heat exchanger warranty on its DR96M4AW, DR95M4W, DR95M4AT and DR80AW*2 models. The DR80UT1 and DR80DT1 get a 10-year limited heat exchanger warranty. Select models add a 10-year limited parts warranty when registered.

A licensed HVAC contractor has to install the furnace. Durastar recommends a service visit at least once a year, and a 5-year extended warranty is available through contractors.

GE Appliances, a Haier company, sells a wider gas furnace range that reaches 98% AFUE on its NF98 modulating models. GE also offers ultra-low NOx versions and a lifetime heat exchanger warranty when you register the unit. Its cabinets are about 33 inches tall, close to Durastar's 34.

Durastar tops out at 96% AFUE and two-stage firing, with a 15-year heat exchanger warranty on most of the line. If you want modulating heat or the longest heat exchanger coverage, GE is worth a look; if you want a simple, serviceable furnace at a value price, Durastar fits.

Durastar Furnace Repair and Service

We stock common parts such as igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches and inducer motors. A yearly tune-up covers combustion, venting, the heat exchanger, the condensate system and safety controls.

Furnace clicks but won't light: a dirty flame sensor or failed igniter.
Shuts off after a few minutes: a clogged filter tripping the high limit, or a pressure switch fault.
Water around the furnace: a blocked condensate trap or drain line on a 95% or 96% unit.
Blower runs but air is cold: a gas valve problem or a failed inducer motor.
