GE furnaces come from GE Appliances, a Haier company, which makes GE-branded HVAC under a trademark license from General Electric. These are natural gas furnaces, so they suit homes on a gas line. If your home burns oil, a GE furnace means converting to gas first. Many Long Island homeowners on oil keep their boiler or oil furnace and add a heat pump instead, and we can price both paths for you.

The 95% and higher models are condensing furnaces. The NF97X, for example, is a Category IV direct vent unit that uses two pipes through the wall, so it doesn't need your chimney. We plan the vent and condensate drain before install day, since a frozen or backed-up drain can shut a condensing furnace down on the coldest night.

Without registration, a residential GE furnace has 5 years on parts and 20 years on the heat exchanger. Register online within 60 days of installation and you get 10 years on parts and a lifetime heat exchanger warranty. A licensed HVAC technician must do the install and service.

The warranty covers parts only, not labor, and it doesn't transfer to the next owner. Keep your registration confirmation with your closing papers if you sell.

Durastar is Ferguson's own brand and the closest value competitor. Durastar furnaces reach 96% AFUE with two-stage firing and carry a 15-year heat exchanger warranty on most models. GE goes further, with a modulating 98% option and a lifetime heat exchanger warranty once registered.

Both use low-profile cabinets of about 33 to 34 inches. If you want modulating comfort or the longest heat exchanger coverage, GE has the edge. For a basic two-stage replacement, either brand does the job, and we'll quote both if you ask.
