Buderus is one of the oldest names in heating. Johann Wilhelm Buderus founded the company in Germany in 1731, and it started making cast iron radiators in 1895. Robert Bosch GmbH bought Buderus in 2003, and the brand now sits inside the Bosch Home Comfort Group.

In North America, Bosch Thermotechnology sells and supports Buderus boilers, the same company behind Bosch Greenstar gas boilers. Here, Buderus is best known for heavy cast iron oil boilers with gas-tight sealed flueways and a full 3 inch insulation jacket. Buderus Boilers for Long Island Homes

Most Buderus boilers on Long Island burn heating oil, and that's where the G115WS fits best. Bosch says it works with most hot water tanks and can replace most makes and models of boiler, so it usually drops into the same basement spot as the old one.

Chimneys are a common snag. Older masonry flues crack, and lining one adds cost. The G115WS has two ETL-approved venting options, into a chimney or directly through the wall, which gives you a way out when the chimney is in rough shape.

Water quality counts too. Buderus won't cover heat exchanger damage from hard-water scale, additives that cause deposits, or oxygen pulled in through old polybutylene tubing with no oxygen barrier. We check the system water and piping before a new boiler goes in.

Warranty

Buderus Boiler Warranty

Bosch's residential warranty for Buderus cast iron gas and oil boilers of 300,000 BTU or less, in one- or two-family homes, works like this:

On top of the manufacturer's coverage, Domino backs every installation with a 1-year labor warranty.

Year 1: the whole boiler is covered for defects in workmanship and materials.
Years 2 to 10: the cast iron heat exchanger is covered against leaks, repaired or replaced at Bosch's option.
Year 11 on: heat exchanger coverage continues, but you pay a share of its list price, starting at 5% and rising to 75% from year 25.
Labor isn't covered. Riello, Carlin and Beckett oil burners are warranted by the burner maker.
It covers only the first owner at the original address and requires regular maintenance by a qualified heating contractor. There's no registration, so keep your invoice and install date.

Buderus vs Bosch Boilers

Buderus and Bosch boilers come from the same company, Bosch Thermotechnology, and share support lines and some warranty paperwork. The real split in the US is fuel and design.

Buderus is the cast iron, oil-burning side: the G115WS and G215 are non-condensing boilers for chimneys or sidewall vents. Bosch is the gas condensing side: Greenstar wall-hung and floor-standing boilers rated 95% AFUE, plus Singular combi boilers. Buderus did build gas condensers like the GB142 and residential SSB, but those are now discontinued.

So if your home burns oil and you want to stay on oil, Buderus is the one to look at. On natural gas or propane, a Bosch gas boiler is the closer match. You can weigh more options on our boiler brands page.

Here's what we see most on Buderus boilers, and what's usually behind it:

No heat, burner locked out: a clogged nozzle or oil filter, a bad electrode gap or a tripped primary control.
Soot or oily smell near the boiler: poor combustion or dirty flueways that need cleaning and a burner adjustment.
Water under the boiler: a weeping fitting, a failed relief valve or, on an older unit, a leaking section.
Relief valve dripping: a waterlogged expansion tank or a fill valve feeding too much pressure.
GB142 won't fire: low system pressure. Bosch says its low pressure switch keeps the burner off below 13 psi.
Short cycling: a control set too tight, or a boiler that's oversized for the house.

Installation

Our trucks carry nozzles, oil filters, electrodes, primary controls, aquastats, circulators, relief valves and expansion tanks. A yearly tune-up covers a combustion test, nozzle and filter change, flueway cleaning and a safety check, which is the regular maintenance Buderus expects.

When repair stops making sense, here's how a replacement goes:

Yes. Robert Bosch GmbH bought Buderus in 2003, and Bosch Thermotechnology sells and supports Buderus boilers in North America next to Bosch-brand boilers.

2Does Buderus still make the GB142?

No. Bosch lists the GB142 among its discontinued Buderus boilers. We still repair and maintain them, but Bosch says a confirmed heat exchanger leak means the heat exchanger must be replaced right away, and that often tips the math toward a new boiler.

3Can a Buderus oil boiler vent without a chimney?

Yes, the G115WS can. It has two ETL-approved venting options: into a chimney or directly through an exterior wall.

4How often should a Buderus boiler be serviced?

Once a year, ideally before the heating season. The Buderus warranty requires proper and regular maintenance by a qualified heating contractor.
