About Bosch Air Handlers

We install, repair and service Bosch air handlers on Long Island, and we stock the common parts, from capacitors to float switches. Factory-trained technicians match each unit to your Bosch heat pump and ductwork, with free estimates and 24/7 emergency service.

Bosch Thermotechnology, part of the Bosch Home Comfort Group, designs its air handlers to pair with its Inverter Ducted Split (IDS) heat pumps. The outdoor unit holds the inverter compressor. The air handler holds the blower, indoor coil and metering device, and it's the part you hear inside the house.

Each Bosch air handler steps up with its system. The entry model uses a simple fixed-speed motor. The higher lines use ECM motors that run at several speeds for quieter airflow and better humidity control.

The BIVA15 comes in 2 to 5 tons and the BIVB19 in 3 to 5 tons. Both ship with a factory-installed TXV. The BIVA20 also supports utility demand response, where the system can pre-heat or pre-cool around peak grid hours with your permission.

Bosch Air Handlers for Long Island Homes

Lots of Long Island homes put the air handler in the attic, so position matters. Bosch units install upflow or horizontal right out of the box and convert to horizontal left or downflow. They come with a composite primary drain pan and a secondary pan, and we add a float switch so a clogged drain shuts the system off instead of staining your ceiling.

Winter is the bigger question. Bosch says the IDS Ultra delivers up to 100% heating capacity down to 5°F and still starts heating at -13°F. Most homes add electric heat strips for backup. Bosch offers 5 to 20 kW kits, and the Ultra air handler also takes three-stage 15 and 20 kW kits.

Heat with an oil boiler but have central air in the attic? Swapping that old attic unit for a Bosch heat pump air handler lets the heat pump carry mild days while the boiler stays as backup. Near the Sound or the bays, Bosch's all-aluminum coils are built for corrosion resistance in salty air.

Warranty

Bosch Air Handler Warranty

For one- or two-family homes, Bosch warrants compressors and internal components in its IDS air handlers for ten years from the commencement date. If the warranty registration is completed, Bosch also pays labor on defective parts, per its labor allowance schedule, for 90 days.

Full terms are on Bosch's site, so keep your install paperwork with the unit's model and serial numbers.

On top of the manufacturer's coverage, Domino backs every installation with a 1-year labor warranty.

Bosch vs Rheem Air Handlers

Rheem's RH2V series is the closest match to Bosch's upper air handlers. Both use ECM motors, R-454B refrigerant and aluminum coils, and both convert to four positions.

The differences are in the details. The Rheem RH2V uses a constant CFM motor that ramps from low to full capacity with a Rheem EcoNet thermostat, and it lists less than 2% cabinet air leakage. The Bosch Ultra air handler is rated at 2% or less at 1.0 inch of water column, uses a constant torque ECM, and adds slide-out blower and coil assemblies. Rheem lists ten years on parts with registration, and Bosch lists ten years on compressors and internal components. The best pick is the one rated with your outdoor unit. Repair & Service

Bosch Air Handler Repair and Service

We stock capacitors, ECM motor modules, float switches, filters, condensate pumps and heat strip relays. A yearly tune-up cleans the coil and drain, checks blower amps and static pressure, and tests the heat strips before winter. The Ultra's tool-less filter door and slide-out blower make that visit quicker.

  • Water in the pan or a ceiling stain: a clogged condensate line or a tripped float switch.
  • Weak airflow: a dirty filter, a frozen coil or a blower losing speed.
  • Blower won't start on a BIVA15: a failed run capacitor on the PSC motor.
  • Cool air in heating mode: heat strips not coming on, or a long defrost cycle.
  • Ice on the indoor coil: low refrigerant charge or a sticking TXV.
  • Thermostat calls, nothing happens: a wiring fault or a blown low-voltage fuse.

FAQ

Bosch Air Handler FAQs

Common questions about this air handler brand on Long Island.

1Can I pair a Bosch air handler with another brand's heat pump?

We don't recommend it. Bosch rates its air handlers as matched systems with its IDS outdoor units, and the SEER2 and HSPF2 numbers only apply to those pairings.

2Which Bosch air handler goes with the IDS Ultra?

The Ultra Series air handler, model BIVB19, in 3, 4 or 5 tons.

3What refrigerant do Bosch air handlers use?

R-454B. The current BIVA15, BIVA20 and BIVB19 all use this low-GWP A2L refrigerant.

4Can a Bosch air handler go in the attic?

Yes. Bosch air handlers are multi-position, so they can lie horizontal in an attic, and they include a primary and a secondary drain pan.

5How long is the Bosch air handler warranty?

Ten years on compressors and internal components in one- or two-family homes, plus 90 days of labor coverage when the registration is completed.
