A built-in A2L sensor and mitigation board pauses the outdoor unit if it detects excess refrigerant.

Ruud Air Handlers for Long Island Homes

The usual Long Island setup is an oil-fired boiler for heat and a central air system on top, with the air handler tucked in the attic. Summer attic heat on the Island is brutal on drain lines and duct joints. Ruud's low-leak cabinets help, but what really protects your ceiling is a secondary drain pan and a float switch, and we install both.

Heat pump conversions change the job. The air handler now carries winter heat, so we size the field-installed heater kit for backup on the coldest nights and set the blower to match the outdoor unit. With an EcoNet Smart Thermostat, the RHMVY ramps gradually from low to full airflow; on a standard 24V two-stage thermostat it runs at two speeds.

Basements and utility rooms are easier, and the 4-way convertible cabinets on the RH2TY and WH1AY let us set the unit upflow, downflow or on its side to fit the existing ducts.

Warranty

Ruud Air Handler Warranty

Ruud's RH2VY, RH2TY and WH1AY pages each list a limited warranty of 10 years on conditional parts, with registration required. On the RHMVY, Ruud words it as Parts: 10 Years, and registration is still required. Full terms come with the Ruud warranty certificate, so keep it with your closing papers; we register the unit for you after the install.

Our technicians carry blower motors, capacitors, transformers, float switches and condensate pumps for Ruud units. A spring visit cleans the coil and drain and checks heat strips before they're needed.

Installation

Ruud Air Handler Installation and Replacement

When we install a Ruud air handler, often during an AC installation and replacement, the job runs in this order:

Call for a quote. The main cost drivers are how hard the unit is to reach, any duct changes, the heater kit, which Ruud family you pick, and whether we're swapping the condenser on the same day.

Check the Ruud outdoor unit's series and size and choose the matched air handler.
Measure the space and pick a family and airflow direction that fits it.
Take out the old air handler, set the Ruud unit on a secondary pan, and reconnect supply and return ducts with sealed joints.
Install the heater kit if needed, then the drain lines and float switch.
Braze, vacuum and charge with the outdoor unit, then set blower speeds and test both modes.
