GE Appliances, a Haier company, builds GE-branded ducted HVAC under a trademark license from General Electric. Besides air handlers, the ducted line covers heat pumps, air conditioners, gas furnaces, evaporator coils and packaged units, so the indoor and outdoor halves can come from one maker.

GE's NAM air handlers use aluminum alloy tube and fin coils. GE says the coils were put through 500 hours of salt spray testing, which matters for homes near the Sound or the bays. Each unit has an antimicrobial drain pan made of corrosion-resistant polymer, with primary and overflow outlets.

Long Island Homes

GE Air Handlers for Long Island Homes

Many Long Island homes heat with an oil boiler and cool with a separate air handler in the attic. Swapping that air handler for a variable speed GE unit paired with a GE heat pump lets the same ducts deliver heat in spring and fall, while the boiler stays for deep cold. If you go that route, PSEG Long Island's whole-house rebate requires dual fuel controls when a fossil system stays.

That PSEG rebate is $4,000 at market rate and up to $7,500 for income-qualified homes. It also requires a PSEG participating contractor, a Manual J, a system sized to 100 to 120% of the home's heating load and a heat pump on the NEEP cold climate list. Domino is a PSEG Long Island participating contractor. In attics, we add a secondary pan and float switch, because an overflow there ends up in the ceiling below.

GE Air Handler Warranty

GE's unitary warranty gives residential air handlers 5 years on parts. Register online within 60 days of installation and it becomes 10 years. A licensed HVAC technician has to install and service the unit, or the warranty is void.

The warranty covers replacement parts only, not labor. It also isn't transferable to a new owner or to a different house, so if you're buying a home with a GE system, ask the seller for the original paperwork.

GE vs Durastar Air Handlers

Durastar, Ferguson's brand, is the closest value rival. Durastar's top air handlers are communicating variable speed units with an electronic expansion valve, built for its side-discharge heat pumps. GE sticks with a factory TXV across the NAM line and offers a two-piece variable speed cabinet that's easier to carry into tight spaces.

On warranty, GE gives 10 years on parts with registration across its air handlers. Durastar gives 10 years on select models with registration. We usually recommend the same brand as your outdoor unit, so one warranty covers the whole system.

Repair & Service

GE Air Handler Repair and Service

We stock common parts such as blower motors, capacitors, float switches and drain fittings. A yearly visit cleans the coil and drain pan, checks airflow and tests the safety switches.

Water on the ceiling below the attic unit: a clogged drain line or full secondary pan.
Refrigerant alarm or shutdown on a new unit: the R-454B detection sensor tripped and needs a leak check.
Blower runs nonstop or not at all: a failed motor, capacitor on PSC models, or control board fault.
Ice on the indoor coil: a dirty filter, low airflow or low charge.
Rooms are clammy in summer: blower speed set too high for the system, which we can adjust on variable speed units.

Pick variable speed, ECM or PSC and a one-piece or two-piece cabinet.
Set the unit, seal ducts and add a secondary pan and float switch where needed.
Braze or connect the line set, pull a vacuum, charge and set blower speeds.
Register the air handler with GE within 60 days.
