Fujitsu air handlers are the ducted half of its AIRSTAGE mini-split family. Unlike a standard air handler, which sits behind a single-speed or two-stage condenser, these run with Fujitsu's own inverter outdoor units, so the blower and compressor ramp up and down together.

The maker, Fujitsu General, joined the Paloma Rheem group in August 2025 and now trades as GENERAL Inc., which makes Rheem and Ruud sister brands. The ducted units list features like fresh air intake, a remote temperature sensor, pump down operation and long piping runs.

Fujitsu Air Handlers for Long Island Homes

Plenty of Long Island capes and ranches have ducts that only carry air conditioning, with an oil boiler doing the heating. A Fujitsu air handler can reuse those ducts for heat too, as long as they're sized and sealed well enough for heating airflow. Attic duct runs that were fine for summer often need insulation once they carry winter heat.

Choose the outdoor unit on purpose. The universal outdoor unit heats down to -5°F, so it fits homes where the boiler stays as backup. If you want the heat pump to carry the house, the XLTH outdoor unit heats down to -15°F, but it's only offered from 30,000 BTU/h up.

For the PSEG Long Island whole-house rebate ($4,000 at market rate, up to a $7,500 rebate for income-qualified homes), the system must be on the NEEP cold climate list and sized to 100 to 120% of the whole home's heating load by Manual J. A participating contractor has to install it, and dual fuel controls are required if the boiler stays. Domino is a PSEG Long Island participating contractor.

The air handler and outdoor unit carry the same coverage as other Fujitsu systems: 7 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts out of the box. Register within 60 days of installation in a residence for 10 years on both. A 12-year tier applies only when a contractor in Fujitsu's own installer program does the job.

Keep the model and serial numbers for both the indoor and outdoor unit. A warranty claim on a matched system usually needs both.

Compare Brands

Fujitsu vs Rheem Air Handlers

Fujitsu and Rheem are sister brands now, but their air handlers aren't interchangeable. Rheem's current air handlers are built for conventional ducted split systems, with PSC, constant torque ECM or constant CFM motors depending on the model, and several run on R-454B refrigerant. Fujitsu's ducted units are inverter mini-split indoor units that only work with Fujitsu outdoor units.

So the choice really comes down to the outdoor unit. If you're replacing a central AC condenser and want a matched Rheem system, compare it on our Rheem air handler page. If you want inverter heating with XLTH cold weather ratings, Fujitsu is the path.

Fujitsu Air Handler Repair and Service

We stock the common parts, such as float switches, condensate pumps, filters and line set fittings. A yearly tune-up cleans the coil and drain, checks airflow and refrigerant pressures, and tests the controls before heating season.

Water on the floor near the unit: the condensate line is clogged or the float switch shut the system down.
Weak airflow at the registers: a dirty filter, crushed flex duct, or ductwork changed since the static pressure was set.
Ice on the indoor coil: low airflow or a slow refrigerant leak at a flare fitting.
Blinking indicator lights: the control board logged a fault code we decode from the blink pattern.

We do a Manual J load calculation and inspect your existing ductwork.
We choose the multi-position or slim duct unit and the universal or XLTH outdoor unit.
We set the air handler, connect the supply and return plenums, and seal every joint.
We run the line set, condensate drain with a float switch, and power to both units.
We vacuum and charge the system, then run airflow and static pressure checks.
We wire the thermostat and, if the boiler stays, the dual fuel controls.
