About PurePro Indirect Water Heaters

We install, repair and service PurePro indirect water heaters across Long Island, and we stock the common parts, from aquastats to T&P valves. Factory-trained technicians size each tank to your boiler, with free estimates and 24/7 emergency service.

PurePro is the private brand of F.W. Webb, a plumbing and heating supply house, and it's sold only through Webb. The tanks themselves come from AMTROL in West Warwick, Rhode Island, which the installation manual names as the manufacturer. AMTROL is part of Worthington Enterprises and says it invented the first indirect-fired water heater.

The design is simple. Hot boiler water runs through a top-mounted stainless heat exchanger inside a 444 stainless tank, heating the domestic water around it. There's no anode, and all fittings are on top for easier service.

The first-hour number climbs with boiler output, so we size the tank and boiler together. Each tank ships with a Resideo fast-acting aquastat that wires for 24V or 120V.

PurePro Indirect Water Heaters for Long Island Homes

Long Island basements can run damp, especially near the water. PurePro wraps the tank in a metal outer jacket to protect it in damp spaces, and it uses 444 stainless for chloride resistance.

No anode means one less part to replace, and adjustable leveling legs handle uneven basement slabs. The 2 inch foam insulation keeps heat loss under 1°F per hour, so the boiler fires less often in summer.

Pressure rules matter too. The domestic side is limited to 150 psig and the boiler side to 30 psig. AMTROL requires a properly sized thermal expansion tank, sized at 2 gallons for the SS-40GRY and 4.4 gallons for the 50 and 80.

Warranty

PurePro Indirect Water Heater Warranty

Warranty claims go to AMTROL's claim department. Keep your invoice and the tank's serial number with your house papers.

On top of the manufacturer's coverage, Domino backs every installation with a 1-year labor warranty.

  • Residential: 10-year limited warranty, with 1 year on parts, per AMTROL's installation manual.
  • Limited lifetime option: the PurePro sell sheet lists a homeowner-purchased upgrade.
  • Commercial installs: 8 years, and industrial: 5 years.

PurePro vs Amtrol Indirect Water Heaters

Since AMTROL builds the PurePro SS series, the closest comparison is AMTROL's own IndireX. Both use a 444 passivated stainless tank, a top-mount stainless heat exchanger and an anode-free design. They come in the same 40, 50 and 80 gallon sizes, stand the same height, and list the same first-hour ratings.

The real differences are the details and where you buy them. The PurePro has a Resideo fast-acting aquastat with an external set screw, while the IndireX uses a digital aquastat with an LCD display. The PurePro adds a metal outer jacket, and the IndireX has a black prepainted steel jacket. Both list a 10-year limited warranty, and PurePro adds a lifetime option. PurePro is sold only through F.W. Webb, while AMTROL sells IndireX through its own distributors. Compare more tanks on our indirect water heater brands page.

Repair & Service

PurePro Indirect Water Heater Repair and Service

AMTROL says the tank and system should be checked by a licensed pro at least once a year. We do it with your boiler tune-up: test the aquastat, check the expansion tank charge, look for leaks and inspect the T&P valve. The manual calls for a T&P inspection at least every three years, and we stock replacements along with aquastats, zone valves, circulators and mixing valves.

  • No hot water: an aquastat that's failed or set too low, or a zone valve or circulator that isn't opening.
  • Hot water runs out: a boiler too small for the tank, or no priority on the hot water zone.
  • T&P valve dripping: a missing or waterlogged expansion tank, or pressure above 150 psig.
  • Boiler pressure climbing: a leak in the internal heat exchanger letting house water into the boiler loop.
  • Banging when the zone starts: air trapped in the heat exchanger loop.
Installation

PurePro Indirect Water Heater Installation and Replacement

Price depends on tank size, what you're replacing (a gas or electric water heater, or an old indirect), piping and zoning changes, and code items. Call for a quote, and ask about pairing it with our boiler service or a new PurePro boiler.

  1. Free estimate: we check your boiler's output and count your bathrooms and fixtures.
  2. Pick the SS-40, 50 or 80 to match your boiler.
  3. Remove the old water heater and set the PurePro level on its legs.
  4. Pipe the boiler side as a priority zone, and add the T&P discharge, expansion tank and a mixing valve.
  5. Wire the aquastat, purge air, fire the boiler and test recovery.

FAQ

PurePro Indirect Water Heater FAQs

Common questions about this indirect water heater brand on Long Island.

1Who makes PurePro indirect water heaters?

AMTROL. The PurePro SS series installation manual says the tanks are manufactured by AMTROL, and F.W. Webb sells them under its PurePro brand.

2Do PurePro indirects have an anode rod?

No. They use a 444 stainless steel tank with an anode-free design, so there's no anode to check or replace.

3Do I need an expansion tank with a PurePro indirect?

Yes. AMTROL's manual says a properly sized thermal expansion tank is required.

4What size PurePro indirect do I need?

Most two-bath homes do well with the SS-40GRY or SS-50GRY. Bigger homes go with the SS-80GRY, as long as the boiler puts out at least 120,000 BTU/hr.

5Can a PurePro indirect work with my oil boiler?

Yes. It works with any hot water boiler, oil or gas, as long as the boiler output matches the tank size.
